This book had excellent facts about the development, construction, and ulimate demise of the greatest ocean liner to ever float the seas. The book also included many pictures of artifacts that have been retrieved from the wreck site. An enjoyable, easy read for any Titanic enthusiast!

This was by-far my favorite of the Titanic books I have read! It was a completely different approach to the Titanic through mostly the artifacts found in the ocean and on the sea bed that have been recovered. It brought a different depth to the tragedy I had not read previously.

This book contains terrific pictures of some of the recovered items. The schematics of the ship are one of kind. This has got to be one of the 1st books that mentions the fire in the boiler room which has been integrated into a lot of current theories that contributed to the tragedy.

From Time-Life Books and the Discovery Channel comes Titanic: Legacy of the World’s Greatest Ocean Liner, a comprehensive look at the life and death of the RMS Titanic. Author Susan Wels does a good job at giving an overview of the ship’s construction, maiden voyage, and the discovery of the wreck, along with the ongoing efforts to preserve recovered artifacts. And, extensive artwork and photographs are included to help visualize the world that Titanic lived in and the watery gave that she now lies. However, despite the book’s title Wels often refers to the Titanic as a “leviathan”; taking a rather negative view of the ship’s size and luxuriousness. There’s also a bit of propaganda in the decidedly pro-salvage position that is taken. Yet all in all, Titanic: Legacy of the World’s Greatest Ocean Liner is an informative read that provides a solid understanding of the ship and its history.

Very interesting. I appreciated the photos of artifacts, also. I had to write a study guide about the "Titanic" due to the upcoming 100th anniversary of the tragedy, hence my sudden reading on this topic. Having the opportunity to learn more about the tragedy, and heart-wrenching circumstances which enlarged its scope, makes the event only that much more unforgettable. I remember being moved as a child when first seeing a powerful, wholesome, and inspiring film about "Titanic," entitled "A Night to Remember." Really good...

This book was excellent. It was different than others I've read in that it talks about the Titanic from its building to the discoveries made approximately 15 years ago. I really enjoyed the full spectrum of information. There are MANY photos and illustrations which were fascinating, informative and eerie. I found myself hoping that in THIS book maybe the fate of the Titanic would be different!

An interesting history of the Titanic. However, since it's a companion to an artifact expedition, it's main focus is on the salvage aspect of the story. The pages are absolutely littered with pictures of objects taken from the gravesite. So it's good if you want to know about that aspect from a very pro-salvage angle. Those anti-salvage, like myself, may find it less than inspiring.

Beautilful compilation by Time-Life Books and the Discovery Channel of photos and information on the building, maiden voyage, sinking, and salvage of the Titanic. Could only have wished for more detail.

This wasn't the best Titanic book I've read, but it's always fascinating to hear different takes on the disaster. This book is full of pictures of salvaged artifacts, and is truly haunting to see. I've seen a lot of these in the Titanic artifact museum in Vegas, but I'll never tire of them.

A must-have addition to your Titanic library. This is jam-packed with information, some that is new and LOTS of photos and illustrations. It includes information and photos of the wreckage discovered by Robert Ballard and the many expeditions that followed. Excellent book!

Wonderful pictures. Basic overview of what happened that night, but more detail put into finding the ship and recovery of artifacts.
